2018, a year for celebrations in England, including a Royal Wedding, Royal Births and in particular the 100th anniversary of the Suffragists in which women won the right to vote in 1918 (See pages 58 & 59).
This year, also celebrates the hot weather in June, some places reaching temperatures of over 30 degrees! Hope your doll collections have not suffered the heat wave, especially wax dolls. The middle pages show a lovely doll collection from a private collector, a person whose passion for collecting still continues today.
Carol Pierrepont’s collection shows numerous dolls from Rosebud, lots in their knitted outfits and other dolls dressd in various materials. Kitturah Westenhouser has a never-ending collection of Barbies from the early ones to the unusual characters, such as Romeo & Juliet, Lord of the Rings, etc.
An interesting catalogue of 1918 regarding Schoenhut all-wood dolls shows the intricate construction of how these dolls were made. (Pages 18 & 19).
